Do you find yourself working long hours without seeing any definitive results?
You feel like you’re doing everything right, and yet, you don’t have enough customers, social media has become a bottomless pit for your hard earned money and you’re constantly frustrated by a lack of progress.
It happened to me in the early stages of my career until I smartened up, but I needed a real a-ha moment (or in fact many) for me to truly understand where I was going wrong.
Sometimes we are not even sure what we need until it is staring us right in the face.
This happened to Connie Mah, educator, yoga teacher, national speaker/trainer and owner of Yogafun.com.au and subject of this week’s case study.
Connie created Yogafun (www.yogafun.com.au) to help reduce anxiety, stress and depression in children through her yoga and mindfulness programs in Early Learning centres, primary and secondary schools.
Pretty cool, right!?
Unfortunately for her, her business was not helping her own stress levels in any way and she wasn’t making the changed in kids lives she’d hoped to.
The money’s in smart work, not hard work
Connie was working 7 days a week and averaging only 4 hours of sleep each night. These long working days were taking a toll on her health and she was still not getting the results she needed to make her business successful.
“I knew in my heart it was possible to make my business grow to where it needed it to be, but I did not have all the sales and marketing tools to make it happen.”
Connie did the math and worked out that her hourly rate was actually less than $5 an hour at that stage of the game. All the blood, sweat and tears she was pouring into the business were not producing an increase in either the business or the sales levels and it was then she realised she could not go it alone any longer.
“I knew I needed help fast and Ben’s program was recommended as a no fluff program from an expert in the field…”
There’s no payoff without a plan
Connie gave herself one year to align Yogafun with her vision: to equip all children with tools to manage stress and anxiety, cope with change and challenging times; or close it down and move back into the corporate world working a standard 9-5 job.
“I had the passion to make it happen but I needed help to make it sustainable and profitable.”
This is more common than many realise.
You’ve got the vision and passion, you just don’t have the vehicle to make your business profitable.
You see, one thing I’ve learnt in my time is that you must have a plan, and the best plan involves strategy, a model to monetise your products / services and a strong publicity campaign (whether that’s social or mainstream media). That’s how I’ve built a following of over 60,000 people and an income in the six figures. It’s the principle I’ve built my programs on.
Defining a three month marketing strategy is essential to consistently generating new leads and revenue for your business. Wishful thinking won’t cut it.
And sometimes, you need a more immediate plan to get you refocused and back on track, especially when the bills are piling up and you’re making business decisions from a state of panic, instead of a calm state of mind.
It’s like going to the supermarket when you’re starving!
You’re going to make poor decisions and fill up on junk food. It’s guaranteed.
Well, it’s no different in business. Only here, your panicked decisions will cost you thousands in lost revenue and going down paths that were never going to payoff in the first instance.
Can your relate?
I was humbled to work with Connie to help her define and clarify her goals, and then develop a marketing strategy to help her achieve them with the integrity and authenticity she holds as an individual.
Thankfully, you don’t have to spend big money nor do you have to devote all day every day to your marketing. All you need is a strategic series of daily actions that you do consistently for a 30 day period to pivot your business in the right direction.
Connie was focused and keen, and soon knew exactly where she was going.
So what happened?
The unbeatable ROI of investing in yourself
Connie learned a lot. In fact Connie became aware that her whole approach to her business was misaligned with its needs and that she was the bottleneck in the equation. She took my advice onboard and started working very differently to the way she had in the past. In fact she credits herself as being a completely new person.
“I used to get really frustrated with working so hard and not getting the results – now I’ve reached a point where I don’t need to stress about my work anymore.”
Through this new working approach, sales leads are more organic and effortless. In fact she says that Yogafun has more work than they can handle at the moment and it still continues to grow.
Not bad for someone who was getting ready to throw in the towel, right?
The investment she made on herself and her business produced amazing results. She increased conversion rates up from 10% to nearly 30%, increased sales by almost 500% and grew the business by a staggering 500%. And in a recent workshop she produced, she made just shy of $25,000 – all in a weekend’s work.
She now has the financial freedom to make wiser investment choices and better understands the pitfalls in the business. She has developed and grown her team and has now set up an automated social media procedure and system based on my teachings. That system alone doubled Yogafun’s sales in the first month of implementation and she is well on her way to achieving her own personal vision for the company. And more than that she has reduced those graveyard office shifts once and for all.
“I feel very proud of what I have achieved; very grateful for all the tools Ben has equipped me with to make my dreams come to fruition.”
After all this hard work, Connie is well and truly ready to take a break. And the best bit? She knows she can take a 4 week overseas holiday and that everything will still run smoothly in her absence.
Double your sales in 30 days – your action checklist
So don’t just wish for results like Connie’s. Go out and get them! If you can also double your sales in one month, it’s worth taking action.
And, the very first place you need to begin is by getting clear on;
1. Your overall business goals / business plan
2. How you will strategically increase the average dollar spend per customer (i.e. see beyond the first transaction or your business will never be profitable)
3. Achieving a product / service market fit
4. Branding that resonates with your target audience
5. Know what to do each and every day for at least a 30 day period to pivot yourself in the direction of new sales
6. How social media, publicity, automated sales, direct advertising all fit together. None should be working out of sync with the others. If they are, your marketing strategy is broken and will only ever stall after mediocre results at best.
7. Pick a strategy and stick to it. Flip flopping around from idea to idea because you have “bright shiny object syndrome” will send you broke fast. You must have the patience to refine a strategy until it works for you – making small tweaks with each revision.
If you need help working out precisely which activities you must ‘immediately’ do to get more clients and make more money, then my 30 Day Business Turnaround Program is the best place for you to begin.
